How to set up your incubator
Settting up the 12 Egg incubator
Put your incubator in location
- Select a space where you will not have to move the incubator again and water can be spilled, because water will be spilled.
- The best location will have a temperature consistantly between 20c-30c, and have no direct sunlight. Do not use a metal bench as it can conduct electricity.
- If you are using the foam incubator cover; place the foam pad for the water bottle behind where you want the incubator positioned.
- Place the incubator (inside the foam base, if using the foam cover) in position, place the water inlet (which is a small hard plastic tube on the side of the base) facing the water bottle (place the water bottle at the back where it is less likely to get knocked over).
Set up the water bottle
Please note that there is high probability of water spillage.
- Fill the water bottle (you can use a standard soft-drink bottle) and place the water stand on top of the bottle (don't turn the bottle over yet).
- To reduce spillage place a blob of blu-tac or similar in the mouth of the water stand.
- Holding the blue-tack place with your thumb rotate the bottle (and bottle stand) and place it on the foam base.
- Connect the clear tube to the base of the incubator.
- Remove the following and place to the side
- The Top foam cover
- The clear lid of the incubator
- Grab the spindle of the incubator and lift off the egg holder
- Lift off the perforated egg tray
- Lift off the humidity modifier (home-made corflute).
- Pour water in the base of the incubator to exactly the top of the water inlet hole.
- Now you can remove the blu-tac plug, or at least press it down so water can get past.
Assemble the incubator
Before you put the incubator back together we recommend placing the clear lid on the incubator and noting how nicely it sits with no gaps.
- Now replace the remaining components in the reverse of the order you took them off
- Once the incubator is assembled plug it in and turn it on
- Go through our checklist to make sure you have set the incubator up properly.
- Wait two hours for the temperature and humidity settle before placing the eggs in the incubator. If the eggs have travelled you may get better results if you allow them to rest 24 hours before placing them in the incubator.
